Inflammatory Diseases & Fatigue

Fatigue is a well-documented complication of spondylitis.
Spondylitis causes inflammation. When inflammation is present, your body must use energy to deal with it. The release of cytokines during the process of inflammation can produce the sensation of fatigue as well as mild to moderate anemia. Anemia may also contribute to a feeling of tiredness. This can be compounded by lack of sleep caused by the pain from spondylitis.

"The researchers found that in mice with inflamed livers, white blood cells called monocytes infiltrated the brain. These findings support previous research demonstrating the presence of immune cells in the brain following organ inflammation, challenging the long-held belief that the blood-brain barrier prevents immune cells from accessing the brain."
