A study posted on Informaworld.com looks at the relationship between conduction disturbances (CD) and cardiovascular (CV) risk in ankylosing spondylitis. Intraventricular conduction is the conduction of the cardiac impulse through the ventricular muscle tissue. Conduction disturbances, according to the study authors, "are independently associated with cardiac disease."
The authors state that the raise in cardiovascular risk with AS may be attributed to conduction disturbances.
The authors conclude that, "Intraventricular CD is highly prevalent in AS, particularly in patients with long-standing disease. Further research is needed to determine whether intraventricular CD contribute to the increased CV risk and long-term CV mortality in AS."
