Q&A with Dr. Matthew Brown

Posted on: 7/12/2010

In an interview posted on the website, illumina.com, Dr. Matthew Brown discusses ankylosing spondylitis research and more.

Dr. Brown is with the main genetics center for an international consortium termed the ‘Australo-Anglo-American Spondyloarthritis Consortium’ (TASC). For more information on TASC, click here.

While discussing ankylosing spondylitis research, Dr. Brown states, "For many years people had thought that ankylosing spondylitis was actually a single-gene disease caused by the HLA-B27. As part of the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium, we completed one of the first non-synonymous SNP genome-wide association studies. That study identified the first two genes, other than actual HLA-B27, that are involved in the disease."
